Events in February 2010

• Feb. 4, 2010: Lois Jarvis Lecture

  Lois joins us to speak about her famous Ground Zero Quilt. This 89 inch square quilt was conceived in the days following the events of September 11, 2001. The center of the quilt was composed using pictures, printed on fabric, of people who perished at the site of the World Trade Center.

  Lois states that her "fascination with happy accidents and creating something out of nothing are themes that run through my work." She uses naturally occurring iron oxide to magically transform found fabric into art cloth.

  

  Please also view the 3 workshops we have available from Lois on Feb. 5 and 6.  There are 2 half-day workshops available on Friday and a full-day workshop on Saturday.

• Feb. 5, 2010: Lois Jarvis Workshop - Rustex

  Half-Day Workshop

  In this class students will learn how to create interesting patterns on natural and man made fibers using naturally occurring iron oxide. Lois will share with her students the techniques she uses to create her Rust-Tex line of fabrics.

  Having trouble using metallic thread on your sewing machine? Let Lois show you what she has learned from many years of sewing with metallic thread.

• Feb. 6, 2010: Lois Jarvis Workshop - Perfect Tumbling Blocks

  Learn the secret to really making a perfect set in seam every time while making the blocks. Then learn how to set your beautiful dimensional blocks using straight seams. Twenty two blocks makes a 30" x 35" quilt top.

• Feb. 13, 2010: Service Event

  Bring your sewing machine, tools, and lunch. We will be working on all kinds of service projects:

  • Finishing up quilt kits
  • Sewing premie quilts
  • Making new lap quilts

  The Service Committee invites everyone to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1133 Pfingsten Road (the Northeast corner of Cherry and Pfingsten), in Northbrook, IL to work on service projects.
